July 2000, The Ozark Empire Fair
Austin was able to truly enjoy the fair this year. From corn dogs to root beer to riding the rides he tried to do it all...and then again and again and...

This was the first year Austin was able to truly enjoy the fair. It was also the first
year in many that the weather wasn't hot and sticky. We left Autumn with Grandpa and
Grandma Fennell for the night and Mommy, Daddy, and Austin ventured off to the fairgrounds.
Once we were there, Austin seemed rather overwhelmed by all the lights, bells and whistles,
and the comotion of people everywhere. The first ten minutes or so we spent dragging him along
as he twisted his head off trying to see everything at once. We all rode the ferris wheel first
thing allowing him to get a good view of everything that was going on. After that, Mommy and Daddy took
turns riding with him on the all the kiddie rides. We had to take a break from rides (or we were going to
go broke) so somehow we talked him into going to look at the livestock. He enjoyed doing that but he kept
asking if we could go back to the "town" (meaning ride area). After walking throught the sheep,
cattle, chickens, rabbits, and taking a brief moment to climb onto big tractor, he talked us into
going back to "town".
When we finally got down to the last couple of tickets, Austin had to make a choice between two
rides he wanted to ride. I don't remember what they were but he made his decision and we made it
very clear that we were going home after the ride -- he agreed. As you might have guessed, when
the ride was over he was not ready to go. He threw a little tantrum. Just as we were about to leave
the fairgrounds, a fireworks display began. Of course we had to stay
and watch it. Austin absolutely goes crazy for "firecrackers". When that was over he happily decided
to go home. It really turned out to be a good experience for all. I think he'll remember it for years
to come. I know Mommy and Daddy will.
