Laura Fennell and Robbyn Bybee

July 2000,
Lisa's Trip to Las Vegas

Lisa, her two sisters, and her mother head
to Las Vegas to celebrate her youngest
sister's 21st Birthday.

written by Lisa Landers

For Laura’s birthday in July 2000, an all girl’s vacation was planned in Las Vegas as it was her 21st birthday. It was hot, exhausting, and utterly exciting. Up all night and down for a brief nap in the late morning, then it was back to fun. We stayed at Barbary Coast, but we were essentially never there. We gambled and walked and saw little. Each time one of us was down on our luck and ready to sight see, someone else would be winning and not wanting to go anywhere. Therefore, we saw virtually nothing except what we passed walking down the strip to another casino. We did, however, tour Ceaser’s Palace and saw a free tour for a dinner theater where a meal and hours worth of entertainment would cost upwards of $45.

Wendy asleep on the plane.Mom won pretty big on the fishing slot machine, and I won on it plenty also. Laura lost all of her money by not knowing when to say when. Robbyn did fairly well at craps as did I. We were actually the queens of dollar craps. Our table was booming due to us, and the pit bosses knew us by name. I was doing so well at one point that I was making sucker bets with 10-30 time payouts and winning. I did make an unfortunate error. The free drinks kept coming, and in my excitement , they went down the hatch way too fast. I had to take a time out when the room started spinning uncontrollably. It passed, and from that point on it was water for me. Mom and I were the two smart ones who did not obtain a hangover the whole trip. Of course, neither of us are big drinkers anyway. So, Laura went home with not a cent. Robbyn did so-so. Mom was the big winner, and I managed to leave with enough to cover all my expenses while I was there. It was a blast! We intend to make it a yearly bonding thing if it all works out.
